Balangan beach is one of the few known places to have left hand reef brakes at mid tide that are not so fast as other brakes on the peninsula. At lower tides the waves are supposed to be fast and hollow. As the brakes are wind sensitive they have a tendency to get messy. Both intermediate surfers and beginners can enjoy the waves here which can sometimes reach heights of about 15 meters.
