Sri Lanka’s largest national park, the Wilpattu Wildlife Reserve offers thrilling safaris in the wilds of this island paradise. This expansive park partly borders the northwest cost and is a popular spot for elephant safaris. A distinctive feature of the reserve is its natural lakes which attract both animal and bird life. The Wilpattu Wildlife Reserve is home to around 31 mammal species including water buffalos, sloth bears, spotted deer and the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. The area is also popular amongst bird watchers who have the chance to spot such species as eagles, terns, owls and painted storks.
