Mount Field National Park

Tasmania, Australia’s sole island state, is known for its beautiful scenery and laidback way of life. It bills itself as ‘Australia’s Natural State’, which is no idle boast considering that nearly forty percent of land on the island is protected. Tasmania is a good vacation destination for nature lovers and those who want a change of scenery. Tourists are bound to have a great time exploring the island’s various natural parks.

The Mount Field National Park is one of Tasmania’s most famous and beloved national parks. Founded in 1916, it is the state’s oldest park and is home to a startling variety of flora and fauna. The terrain drastically changes from one part to another making it possible for many different types of animals to inhabit the area. Among the park’s more popular inhabitants are wombats, bandicoots, platypuses, echidnas and the iconic Tasmanian devil.

Visitors can walk along the park’s many trails and try to spot some of these elusive creatures. The most popular trails include Russell Falls, a twenty minute walk; Tall Trees Walk; and Horseshoe Falls. One can also go skiing (between July and September) or have a picnic – the site contains barbequing facilities. The park is located about sixty kilometres away from Hobart.

Hobart is Tasmania’s capital and a good place to visit. The city has quite a few interesting attractions such as the Salamanca Market, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, the MONA Museum of Old and New Art and Battery Point (which is found behind Salamanca Market). The public infrastructure is pretty good, making it a convenient place for tourists to visit. One can rely on the local bus system to get around although, due to its small size, the city can also be explored by bicycle. Shops and restaurants are plentiful and are easy to find.

The city also offers plenty of choices when it comes to lodgings. Travellers looking for well equipped accommodation in Hobart can try Somerset on Salamanca Hobart. They offer excellent apartment accommodation Hobart in a central location. With many of the city’s top attractions just a few minutes away, it is the ideal place to stay at.
